An increase in the number of women playing sport has driven improved participation figures, according to the latest survey by Sport England. A widespread appreciation for equal opportunity in sports at all levels, and for all ages of girls. In 1972, just 1 in 27 girls participated in high school sports; today, about two in five do, according to the Women’s Sports Foundation. That explains the gain of 17,000 girls over 10 years up to 117,000.
